Offentlig forelæsning: Time to fire the sociological canon?

Sociologisk Institut ved Professor Christian Borch og Marie Curie-stipendiat Torsten Geelan inviterer hermed studerende og forskere på Det Samfundsvidenskabelige Fakultet til en offentligt forelæsning fredag den 12. maj (CSS 35.01.06, 15.00-16.30) af lektor Ali Meghji (Cambridge Universitet) med titlen 'Time to Fire the Sociological Canon? Sociology and the Coloniality of Knowledge'.

I dette foredrag vil Lektor Ali Meghji undersøge, hvordan sociologi blev viklet ind i koloniale måder at tænke og vide på. Han vil spore, hvordan sociologien har fastholdt sin forpligtelse til denne kolonialitet af viden indtil i dag, og argumentere for en sociologi, der understreger tidsmæssige, begrebsmæssige og rumlige forbindelser, som understøtter en pluriversal sociologi.

Ali Meghji er lektor i sociale uligheder ved Sociologisk Institut, Cambridge Universitet. Han er formand for 'Decolonizing Sociology@Cambridge' og chefredaktør for Sociology Compass. Til dato er han forfatter til Decolonizing Sociology and The Racialized Social System: Critical Race Theory as Social Theory udgivet af Polity Press. Hans kommende bog Race, Decoloniality and World Crises udgives af Temple University Press.

Sociology and the Coloniality of Knowledge
In this lecture, Ali will begin by examining how sociology became entangled
with colonial ways of thinking and knowing. He will then trace how sociology
has maintained its commitment to this coloniality of knowledge into the
present day, and conclude by arguing for a sociology which stresses temporal,
conceptual, and spatial links, advocating for a pluriversal sociology.

Ali Meghji is an Associate Professor in Social Inequalities at the Department
of Sociology, University of Cambridge. He is the chair of ‘Decolonizing
Sociology @ Cambridge’ and the editor-in-chief of Sociology Compass.
